Shad said knowing the proper time to pick huckleberries was just born in one, so the girls had guarded the old pasture from any marauding youngsters or wayside peddlers.

It is the third book in a series about four sisters and was published in 1919. It is a book labeled 'juvenile fiction' but doesn't quite live up to other titles written during this era.The first two books are:Greenacre Girls - published in 1915Jean Of Greenacres - published in 1917Kit is fifteen and starting to dream of her place in the world. She has some adventure on the farm and then decides to go off and stay with an elderly aunt and uncle in WI. There she attends a college prep school with other girls.The storyline rambles a bit. It also contains many refers to historical figures, mythology, ancient history, poets, and other literature. I found it heavy and a touch boring. A concept or character would be introduced only to be dropped ten pages later. There were one or two common threads throughout the book but not enough to hold my attention.I finished it but wasn't impressed.This author also wrote This One Mad Act...the Unknown Story of John Wilkes Booth and His Family By His Granddaughter. Izola Forrester's mother, Ogarita Henderson, believes she is the illegitimate daughter of John Wilkes Booth.
