Drying is the easiest and simplest way of preserving herbs. Just expose the leaves, seeds or flowers to the dry and warm air. Leave your harvested herbs in a properly ventilated area till all the moisture from the herbs evaporates. Do not sundry the herbs as they can lose their color and flavor.

I don't know how this could be called 'The Ultimate', the writing is just general info that's already known... No specifics about working with the different kinds of herbs, i.e.: rosemary drying versus fennel greens drying.

The Blue Fairy Book (Xist Classics), by Lucy Maud Montgomery

From the Back Cover It is almost impossible to envision what childhood would be like without the enchanting world of fairyland. Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, giants and dwarfs, monsters and magicians, fairies and ogres—these are the companions who will thrill young boys and girls of all lands and all times, as Andrew Lang's phenomenally successful collections of stories have proved. From the day that they were first printed, the Lang fairy tale books of many colors have entertained thousands of boys and girls, as they have also brought pleasure to the many parents who have read these unforgettable classics to their children. The Blue Fairy Book was the first volume in the series and so it contains some of the best known tales, taken from a variety of sources: not only from Grimm, but exciting adventures by Charles Perrault and Madame d'Aulnoy, The Arabian Nights, and other stories from popular traditions. Here in one attractive paperbound volume—with enlarged print—are "Sleeping Beauty," "Rumpelstiltskin," "Beauty and the Beast," "Hansel and Gretel," "Puss in Boots," "Trusty John," "Jack the Giantkiller," "Goldilocks," and many other favorites that have become an indispensable part of our cultural heritage. All in all, this collection contains 37 stories, all narrated in the clear, lively prose for which Lang was famous. Not only are Lang's generally conceded to be the best English versions of standard stories, his collections are the richest and widest in range. His position as one of England's foremost folklorists as well as his first-rate literary abilities makes his collections unmatchable in the English language.  Unabridged and unaltered republication of first (1891) edition.

About the Author Andrew Lang (March, 31, 1844 July 20, 1912) was a Scottish writer and literary critic who is best known as a collector of folk and fairy tales. Lang s academic interests extended beyond the literary and he was a noted contributor to the fields of anthropology, folklore, psychical research, history, and classic scholarship, as well as the inspiration for the University of St. Andrew s Andrew Lang Lectures. A prolific author, Lang published more than 100 works during his career, including twelve fairy books, in which he compiled folk and fairy tales from around the world. Lang s Lilac Fairy and Red Fairy books are credited with influencing J. R. R. Tolkien, who commented on the importance of fairy stories in the modern world in his 1939 Andrew Lang Lecture On Fairy-Stories.

By Inkhorn If you are new to Lang, it started in 1889 with the blue fairy book, and then a series developed, yellow, crimson, orange, red, and so forth. The fact that this series has endured to now is a testament to its quality. As you read, you will discover fairy tales and myths from all over the world, including the well known writers such as Grimm, Andersen, Perrault, and Mme D'Aulnoy. These are not the politically correct stories you might expect, and I believe you will find them useful whether it's for your own reading pleasure, of for passing on stories to children. In fact, if you look beyond the surface of the story, there is a cautionary aspect for children who might get lost, and the evil characters they might meet like the wolf in sheep's clothing, or the boy who cried wolf, or the nice person who offers a gift, but is really a wicked queen in disguise. There may be a young prince who helps a hairy man escape, and the king embarrassed and enraged orders the child to be killed. Naturally the woodsman slaughters an animal instead, and returns those to the king instead as evidence of performance of the deed. There are stories of boys becoming men, being tested by the princess, and doing great deeds to prove their worth. Some characters are wicked and evil, and so the protagonist has to develop resources of their own to defeat the deceit, trickery, jealousy, ambition, and wickedness of the people they encounter.I recommend you start with the blue book, because it has most of the best known stories, for example, Aladdin, Sleeping Beauty, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Bluebeard, Puss in Boots. You can check the contents of each book at mythfolklore, and even read the stories online. If you are buying Lang, you need to know which publisher, because there are many editions through different publishers, some are good with nice print and pictures, others have small print and no pictures.I highly recommend the Dover edition which has pictures and good size print. These pictures are black and white drawings. The Boomer books edition has good size print. If you want a durable hardcover library style book with a red string bookmark, I recommend the D N Goodchild books. Avoid the compilation book, and buy them individually. One of my favorite stories not in this edition is The wooing of Olwen. It's unusually cruel and bloodthirsty from Wales and King Arthur's court.I know you will enjoy these wonderful stories, and I hope this review was helpful.

Thirty-seven marvellous unadulterated fairy-tales By Mike Christie Andrew Lang's series of fairy-tale books are some of the fundamental children's reading of the twentieth and late nineteenth century. The stories are not "original": there's no such thing when they were almost without exception passed down orally; but they are in old, not very modernized tellings. Many readers who have only seen or read modern, Disney-fied versions of Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty or Snow-White will not recognize some of the darker twists in these tales. For example, in Sleeping Beauty, when the Prince wakes the Princess and marries her, the story is by no means over. The Prince's mother is an Ogress, whom his father married for her wealth, and it's suspected that she likes to eat little children; that "whenever she saw little children passing by, she had all the difficulty in the world to avoid falling upon them". The happy couple have two children, named Day and Morning, and the Ogress decides to dine on them one day when the Prince is away. Yes, it still has a happy ending, but Disney it isn't.The illustrations--8 full page, plus 130 smaller ones--are all from the original 1891 edition. They're black and white woodcuts; very atmospheric, and I think most children will like them. The only thing that might have to be explained to a child is the occasional use of vocabulary that is no longer current. Most often this is the use of "thee" and "thou"; but a few other words will crop up. However, they're usually inferable from context, and the stories are marvellous entertainment regardless.

It has an excellent group of stories from different fairy tale writers, including Perrault, d'Aulnoy, and Grimm. This book was originally printed in the 19th century. It has not been abridged, nor have any of the original pictures been taken out. (Be warned, they're *artistic*) These are the original, unaltered by Disney versions, and contain the nightmarish plots they were meant to have. Anyone who collects fairy tales should have this.

(Kindle is just not the best format for cookbooks, you know?) So I actually bought this book from a local bookstore because I didn't see it on Amazon at first. I just want to let people know that it's a really great reference as well as cookbook. It gives a lot of helpful information about the science behind ketogenics and the recipes are FABULOUS. Try the lemon cheesecake fat bombs and the bacon wrapped avocados! It's a clear, easy to understand book with many great recipes that you don't need a bunch of weird ingredients to make. I really think this is the best book I've seen so far for the beginner keto-dieter. Best of luck to all!

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Beginner's Guide, Not Everything Guide By Marcea PROS: The descriptions about ketosis at the beginning of the book are in very clear, low-level language. It reminded me a little of reading a kid's science book--trying to explain some complicated information but making an effort to express it with easy words. If you're looking for a book about ketosis that is good for someone who doesn't like to read science or who is a bit younger, this is a good choice. There were also some helpful recipes.CONS: This was really more of a cookbook than an "everything" book. The portion describing ketosis was pretty short, and most of the book was just recipes. There were a few topics that the author didn't discuss that I wish she had (e.g. some people argue fiber should be counted in your carbs because it has a roundabout, indirect effect on glucose via gut microbes), and there were some that she just didn't seem aware of (e.g. dairy can have an insulinotropic effect--it can raise insulin without raising blood sugar. No one knows how this works for sure, but it appears to the be the whey portion of dairy, which means all the cream cheese in her recipes shouldn't be there if you want to stay firmly in ketosis). She didn't discuss whether carb cycling was a good idea or not. Really, if this book had been titled "A Beginner's Guide to the Ketogenic Diet", I wouldn't complain much, because she does cover the basics. But there are too many topics glossed over or ignored to call it an "Everything" guide.

4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Misses the Mark By Joy Bradford I checked this book out of the library to see if it was worth buying. While the recipes sound good, none of them contain nutritional information, and this is AFTER the book tells you to count your macros (fat, carbs, protein). Many of the recipes are very similar to others available for free online, there are not a lot of "new" ideas here. Also, there are general guidelines on what to eat, and what not to eat, but no food lists. Very disappointing. If you're new to this way of eating, skip this book for now.

This is a classicand ground-breaking study of Haitian literature from the time of the American Occupation to 1961. It is an early study by a scholar now recognized as one of the leading experts in Caribbean literature written in French. It is a thorough, meticulous analysis of the intersection of history and several literary movements in twentieth century Haiti. Well worth reading for a solid background for those unfamiliar with Haitian literature who are reading twentieth and twenty-first century Haitian workds.

In this river there are many rays, a kind of mud fish like the salt-water skate; and the river, indeed, gets its name from them: “Yabebirì” means the “river of ray fish.” The ray is a wide, flat fish with a long, slender tail. The tail is very bony; and when it strikes you it cuts, and leaves poison in the wound.

Alligators, Bees, Parrots and much more By sally tarbox Eight stories set around the Yabebiri and Parana rivers (Argerntina), and aimed at the younger audience, although with little moments of humour that endear them to the adult.I particularly liked the ‘Just So Story’ format of “How the Flamingoes got their Stockings”. When the snakes hold a ball, the flamingoes go shopping for new stockings but are unsuccessful until the mischievous owls fool them with some snakeskins of their recent prey. Insulted by this gesture, their hosts bite them – and that’s why they stand in the water for hours: to relieve the pain.Other stories have a human element: in “How the Rays Defended the Ford”, a man stops another from dynamiting the fish. One day the rays in turn save him when he is fleeing from a group of hungry panthers to an island in quite a vividly written passage:“The rays plunged their stingers into the panthers’ feet and at each prick the panthers would send up the most bloodcurdling roars. Meanwhile the panthers were clawing and kicking at the rays, making frightful splashes in the water and tossing up ray fish by the barrel full. Hundreds and hundreds of rays were caught and torn by the panthers’ claws and went floating down the Yabebiri which was soon all tinged with ray blood.”The older reader will be entertained by the naivety of “The Blind Doe”, where the mother of said deer decides to take her daughter to “a man who was skilful with remedies. This man was a hunter and traded in venison. But, from all reports, she concluded that he was quite a kind-hearted person.”Quite an enjoyable little collection of stories.

A Great Teller of Tales By green chili reader Early translation of several short stories by a marvelous South American writer who is frequently compared to Kipling and sometimes to Poe. The Margaret Sayers Peden translation of The Decapitated Chicken and Other Stories are generally superior to this effort, but they do tend to focus on the monstrous human dimension of Quiroga's oeuvre rather than, as here, on the animals who are so well adapted to their jungle environment. Easy recommendation is to read both.

I like this one particularly because the author never lets the reader know any more than the characters do. The reader learns only as the characters learn.

I had a crazy uncle, like most everyone does. Many of his stories were about a big hairy monster that lived in the woods behind his cabin in the woods. He called the monster Bigfoot, a name I thought he made up when I was eight years old because I hadn’t heard the word before that. He had a Bigfoot encounter and was worried about abduction and attack all the time. My story takes place while I was in college, but it started way before that when Uncle Chip was still alive.

Technically there are quite a few grammatical errors, but I still enjoyed the overall story. It almost feels like you're reading the author's diary. The emotions are raw and you can feel the author's fear. I thought there was a little too much background information and I felt like the author included some strange unnecessary details. Overall, it was a good read and you can relive a terrifying experience with the author. The ending was kind of abrupt, but the author tells a good tale. The story is believable and I would absolutely recommend it to any Bigfoot aficionado. The grammar and lack of editing were the big downfall for me, but I guess that just adds to the rawness and believability of the story.

It certainly sounds like a run-of-the-mill ghost story, with some tragic elements and social stereotypes thrown in. Some parts of the narrative makes no sense at all. I don't think anyone (not even a small kid) can confuse a run-down trailer park inhabited by poor people with a mysterious and isolated cabin in the woods! As for Bigfoot, he is his usual smelly self. Still, "Terror in the Woods" has a certain entertainment value, and I therefore give it three stars.

Scotch whisky is the world's favorite spirit, with established European and North American sales being swelled by fast-growing markets in China, India, and Brazil. Once again new distilleries are being built in Scotland, and older ones that had been "mothballed" are being brought out of retirement. The heritage, the craft-based production method, and the picturesque locations of many distilleries are a huge part of Scotch Whisky's appeal. Scotland today has more than 100 distilleries ranging from vast factories to artisanal workshops, and more than half of them welcome tourists. Scotch outlines the history, heritage, and romance of the industry including the two-century conflict between illicit moonlighters and the Excisemen: the extraordinary boom in whisky production when phylloxera devastated the vineyards of France and created a shortage of Cognac; the challenges presented by two world wars, depression, and prohibition; and Scotch's resurgence after facing down world-wide competition from white spirits. It explains the raw materials -malted barley and water transformed by the degree of peatiness both in the maltings and the water -and the distillation and maturing processes, going into the sometimes minute variations in ingredients and equipment that give each malt whisky its unique character. It also explains the production of grain whisky and the blending processes that give us our best-known brands, instructs in how to get the best out of expensive single malts, and guides readers as to sourcing unusual malts and visiting distilleries.

We start out with explaining percentages that segues into the need to dry the important barley germinating on the floor. Here we see how to dry for the distilling. Malt Whisky will be distilled up to 3 times. There are different barrels for aging. Some are even charred for that certain taste. Then we move to the start way back around 800AD. This brings us up to the smugglers and WW II. We can't forget the days of the forced clearances that sent Scots across the Pond to Canada. The Irish took the start to begin blending different brews. Now we try to learn to taste and the recipes. Today the Distilleries that are open welcome tourists to tour their businesses. At the end there is a list of the 5 regions and the businesses that are open. This was a great story. I will appreciate Whisky more now. I hope you give this book a chance. Enjoy tour reading-maybe with a Scotch on the Rocks! I have this book for an honest review for NetGalley.
