Baby carrots and celery? After reading Miraval's Sweet & Savory Cooking I can tell you it isn't as bad as that. Not by half. As it turns out you don't need to be rich or snobby to enjoy this food. The recipes are for everyday people, who make mindful choices about food. The book is full of clever tricks and switches built into the recipes. I usually have to take it upon myself to make these swaps. Sometimes with disastrous results. Here the recipes are built around them, by people who know what they are doing. I thought the premise of the book- Sweet and Savory- really tied the book together. I love that it was a married couple who brought their ideas together for this book. I have to say, I favored the sweet recipes. There were many savory recipes that I plan on making. Especially the soups. However I found some of them were just too involved for a weeknight meal at my house. By no means does that make the recipes bad. Just perhaps not as practical for me. For the most part I found the recipes balanced enough for the home-cook. Almost all the sweet recipes are ones that I would make for my family. I love baking for my kids but struggle to find healthy recipes. I do wish a few of the gluten-free recipes had used coconut flour/almond flour. I'm not a huge fan of potato starch and tapioca flour, which the recipes rely upon heavily. I also would have liked to have seen a different sugar substitute rather than agave. However these things are all personal preference. There are still a ton of other recipes to choose from. I thought the book on a whole was gorgeous. The photographs were spot on, beautiful lighting. Each recipe included serving size, calorie, fat, carb, fiber and protein information. Anyone who is watching their weight would find this information helpful. This is the type of book I would cook from time and time again.

I do enjoy cookbooks that have ingredients that a normal grocery store would have. Being in a small town our nearest Whole Foods is an hour away, so having ingredients that can be bought at the local store is pivotal! This book has that but takes those ingredients to a higher level. One meal that I died over was the Lentil Portobello Roll ups with Feta, Tomatillo, Lime, and roasted corn salsa. WHAT!!!? YUMS!!The one the hubby wanted to try was the Blueberry Lemon scones. What I really liked was that the authors added in a small "how to" for making the scones a bit softer. One reason I don't like scones is because I'm pretty damn sensitive and I don't want my teeth cracking while I eat my breakfast! Kind of important! The meals don't stop there either... this book has yummy stuff like Crab Wontons (OMG these are amazing) and Pretzel bread rolls. It is probably obvious that this also isn't a diet cookbook. This is for people that want to eat yummy, real food! I love that... and yes I know diet food can be yummy too but sometimes I just do not want to feel like I am on another diet! This book will help you feel like you are in love with what you can do in your kitchen. And the above meals are just a taste of what's in this. There is gnocchi and macaroons! Fudge brownies and a Gluten Free Applecake. Yums again! The only down side to getting this on Kindle was the fact that the recipes ran together. I'd much rather have the book in my hands than try to figure out where a recipe starts and stops. In short: This cookbook is amazing. With just about everything under the sun, your mouth will start watering. Easy ingredients and great tips!

By Executive I received this book as a gift and have tried 3 or 4 recipes, the scallop recipe with lemon sauce was a winner, but the blueberry muffins and scones were both flops. The muffins were moist, but elastic, very strange consistency. The scones just came out of the oven after 45 - 50 minutes of baking (recipe calls for 15 - 20 minutes) and are still somewhat gooey. I have a quality ingredients and equipment (good oven) and don't experience this with other recipes. I'm an experienced cook and trying to figure out what is going wrong, for example is there an elevation or climate issue?
