About the Author Sheronda L. Barksdale is a stay-at-home mom of her busy 2-year-old son, Life Empowerment Coach, Vision Specialist, Empowerment Speaker, author, and entrepreneur. She specializes in, stress management, time management, relationship coaching, motivation, and spiritual and personal growth for women. Sheronda has two associate degrees, one in Business Administration and the other in Sociology. She also has a Bachelor’s degree in Counseling and Human Services. After being strengthened through many traumatic life experiences, from homelessness, to her 1-year-old suffering a traumatic brain injury, Sheronda uses her strengths to encourage others to be empowered by their pain. Mrs. Barksdale has previously written two books, Fearless Prayer and The Path to Your Path. Umbarger This is a good book if you're looking for a quick but thoughtful read. Many of the conversations between the characters resonated with honesty. If the author hasn't had these exact conversations in real life, she's clearly had similar ones and manages to capture the feelings in them. I'd love to give it the full five stars, but I really wanted the characters and events to be a bit more fleshed out and to spend more time getting to know them. (Also, I just really wanted her to stand up to her boss more and throw FMLA laws at him! What a $@%@#!) Still, an enjoyable read.I could see this being a good choice for a book club that wants a stepping stone to discussing the issues brought up in the book.

I’ll go ahead and get the lows out of the way first.Throughout the book the main character whose name is Octavia is referred to as Olivia. I don’t know if this was a mistake of the author or it’s supposed to be short for Octavia. It was disorienting and took me completely out of the story. I literally paged through the book looking for where I may of missed why Octavia would randomly be called Olivia. I couldn’t figure it out and it ate at me every time I read it.The story felt rushed. When you have a story whose subject is as emotional as cancer you would expect to walk the journey with the character. There isn’t much of that. It felt very glossed over.The high points are that Octavia is a very interesting character. Her emotions and reactions are unique. Her journey is unique. All of the supporting characters are interesting as well. If more time and writing was put into this novella it could make a really great book. The author has a good story here. It just needs to be fleshed out a lot more.
