If you are curious about the Cajun (Acadian) culture, this collection is a great place to start. If you are already familiar, or are an Acadian, you'll find gobs of good stuff here to heap on your plate. An important book, this, and an author to look for.

Excellent Perception of Cajun Culture By LG “People of the Good God” guides the reader on a journey that traces the author, Hardy Jones’ intense quest to discover his Cajun cultural heritage. “Cajuns” a word derived from “Acadians,” the people expelled from Acadia (today Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, and Maine) in 1755 and several years on. Some returned and others migrated to southern Louisiana.Born at a time when the “People of the Good God,” who had lived, endured the early days of southern Louisiana Cajun life, are in their late years, speak a French patois language, Hardy visits and hears these people talk of the past. He gains an insight into the heart, joie de vivre, and resilient philosophy of “People of the Good God.”The author doesn’t speak the Cajun language, but knows a few words, and made attempts at proper pronunciation. Hardy, showing a deep love for his mother who was prevented to speak the Cajun language while growing up except in the home, she didn’t want Hardy to learn the Cajun dialect.He discovers his family lineage and that his mother carries the Cajun bloodline. Learning of his grandparents, uncles, aunts’ way of life, visiting a museum, and others’ day-to-day survival, the reader and Hardy acquire a firsthand understanding of Cajuns’ life not found in mainstream history books.Hardy articulates the “People of the Good God’s” joy of music, culinary skill, and strong bond linked by a common origin.“… Good God” in French pronounced as “… Bon Dieu.” in Cajun/Acadian it’s pronounced, and sounds like, “… BonJeu.”In French, the title of the book would read “Peuple du Bon Dieu.”
