Everything you think you know about Nikola Tesla is wrong.

Nikola Tesla was one of the greatest electrical inventors who ever lived. For years, the engineering genius was relegated to relative obscurity, his contributions to humanity (we are told) obscured by a number of nineteenth-century inventors and industrialists who took credit for his work or stole his patents outright. In recent years, the historical record has been "corrected" and Tesla has been restored to his rightful place among historical luminaries like Thomas Edison, George Westinghouse, and Gugliemo Marconi.

Most biographies repeat the familiar account of Tesla's life, including his invention of alternating current, his falling out with Edison, how he lost billions in patent royalties to Westinghouse, and his fight to prove that Marconi stole 13 of his patents to "invent" radio. But, what really happened?

Consider this: Everything you think you know about Nikola Tesla is wrong. Newly uncovered information proves that the popular account of Tesla's life is itself very flawed. In The Truth About Tesla, Christopher Cooper sets out to prove that the conventional story not only oversimplifies history, it denies credit to some of the true inventors behind many of the groundbreaking technologies now attributed to Tesla and perpetuates a misunderstanding about the process of innovation itself.

Are you positive that Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone? Are you sure the Wright Brothers were the first in flight? Think again! With a provocative foreward by Tesla biographer Marc. J. Seifer, The Truth About Tesla is one of the first books to set the record straight, tracing the origin of some of the greatest electrical inventions to a coterie of colorful characters that conventional history has all but forgotten.

Review

"Tesla is an enigmatic figure whose life and achievements appeal to historians, engineers, scientists, and many others, and this volume will touch them all in different ways. Everyone from new readers to Tesla historians are sure to find something of interest here." - Library Journal

"His (Christopher Cooper) premise is that every scientific luminary, not just Newton, sees farther by standing on the shoulders of giants. Much of the text recounts not only the stories of Tesla's inventions, but also of the discoveries and developments of earlier researchers on whose work Tesla's is based. It tells, too, of some who tried to pirate Tesla's inventions and claim them as their own." - Mechanical Engineering

Cooper goes to great pains to separate myth from fact By Duane Hyland In "The Truth About Tesla," Cooper delivers a highly polished and well researched argument that sheds real light on Tesla and his work. Cooper goes to great pains to separate myth from fact, which does a real service to historians, researchers, or just the general public who have only heard the "other side of the story," in regard to Tesla. Cooper delivers all of this is a handsomely bound, well documented, and illustrated text - making this book a great one for the casual reader as well as the serious student of Tesla's life. If we are truly to understand any historical figure, we must look at their life under the microscope, because we can't afford to solely believe myths - and that is what Cooper does in this work - he holds Tesla and his claims up under a bright light to see what can be seen about them, and in doing so we learn much about the man that was real, and much that is not. It is an important service that Cooper provides, because only by separating myth from fact do we arrive at true knowledge, and that is why we, as the public, should be indebted to Cooper for his work here.

A must read, and perfect holiday gift for anyone on your list By David C Styers The Truth About Tesla is a very pertinent and timely book looking at the twin engine buzz words of innovation and celebrity. In our litigious nation, many (most?) issues in modern society end up in the judicial system with the Supreme Court called upon time and again (and rightly or wrongly) as the ultimate arbitrator of the future by deciding on what has happened in the past. This book is a fascinating case study shining a spotlight on the dance of claiming credit vs. advancement for the greater good. Invention and innovation may be messy, but Chris Cooper's research and writing certainly are not.

By Arun Alex October 11 2015There is no new information in this book about the inventor's life, his inventions, or his struggles. What is new, however, is an author who writes with the slant of a prosecuting attorney attempting to discredit Mr. Tesla. That Mr. Cooper has a decided personal bias against Mr. Tesla was quite evident after reading only a few paragraphs. The "mythology" surrounding Mr. Tesla which Mr. Cooper intends to expose is certainly not unique to Mr. Tesla as most reasonable individuals are already aware that the successes of any one person often result from further development of the work of predecessors. Mr. Cooper failed to convince me that Nikola Tesla did not have an astonishing intellect coupled with unbridled creativity. More scholarly and objective analyses of the inventor's life and work exist elsewhere.
