It's been many years since high school, when I studied civil war history. These books have 're-sparked my love for civil war history. I believe I will be reading much more on the subject. If you are American your family had something to do with this tragic conflict. Though this series are fictional the battles and some of the people involved are true and greatly researched. I would recommend these books to all with a interest in history. Well done Mr. Altsheler...........

By Jim Morgan One of the best series written about the Civil War that I've ever read. Joseph Alexander Altsheler has a knack of drawing you into the sights and sounds of battle along with the confusion that ensues. Considering it was written over 100 years ago, it still draws emotion from the reader. Imagine what it must have done for Civil War veterans who read the series!!!

It so correctly captures the duel nature that the border states felt with the divided nature of towns and families alike. I highly recommend and encourage everyone to read this series as well as the previous books dealing with the French and Indian war and the Revolutionary War!
