About the Author Robert Louis Stevenson (eigentlich Robert Levis Balfour Stevenson) wurde am 13.11.1850 in Edinburgh geboren. Der Vater war Leuchtturmbaumeister, das wollte auch der Sohn werden. Er hatte jedoch ein Lungenleiden und studierte daher Jura von 1871-1875. Er arbeitete jedoch nicht als Rechtsanwalt sondern wurde freier Schriftsteller, vergeblich ein Klima suchend, das sein Lungenleiden heilte. Seit 1888 lebte er auf Samoa, wo er bei den Eingeborenen in hohem Ansehen stand. Er starb am 03.12.1894 im Haus Vailima bei Apia (Westsamoa).

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Great memories By Andromeda I cannot remember how many times I heard some of those stories but did not really read them. Or some I read but a long time ago. I am really enjoying them now that I am an adult and can understand the meaning of some ideas. It is really interesting and great if you don't have time to read long stories but like to read a lot It is the perfect book.

By Tom Munro These are stories written by a literary master in which characters from the distant past come vividly to life. This is an eclectic collection that covers everything from the macabre to the mawkish but if you like quality writing you will hardly be disappointed. Tuck in!
