A refreshing, real and true story of a man who had the guts to follow his passion for cooking, baking and the great outdoors, then combine that with an Alaskan adventure. He is you and me, wishing we too, could have had this adventure. You will cheer for him, laugh with him and wish you knew him personally when you finish the book. Not a professional writer, he speaks in terms that do not require a dictionary or thesaurus to understand. Yet the truthfulness and clarity are astonishingly direct and to the point. Well worth the time to read and enjoy!

I knew Darrell many years ago and found this book to be a great way to catch up with him By Walt Lyons Finished this book very quickly as it was very hard to put it down. I knew Darrell many years ago and found this book to be a great way to catch up with him. The book is well written and I felt myself jumping back from the bears he described and the precarious positions he found himself in while adventuring in Alaska.

Murphy I'm a plumbing contractor in Southern Oregon and a client of mine who lived in Alaska for 65 years was back visiting family in Anchorage recently. While sitting in the Anchorage airport, he struck up a conversation with a fellow passenger awaiting a flight to Portland. My client said he was a very friendly and interesting man and when getting ready to board, the man gave him this book.......and signed it! "Hope you enjoy my stories, Brother Darrell" It just so happened that I mentioned reading a great book about a couple that lived in the Alaska bush for 16 years (Northern Lights and Shadows by Lee Basnar). My friend grabbed his signed copy of Darrell's book and said, "You'll love this book. Just make sure I get it back!" I brought it home and with back to the fire, I gobbled it up in two nights with multiple intercessions to relate the stories to my wife. My only disappointment with the book is that it ended too soon. I really think he could write a very interesting autobiography of his life before Alaska! Two thumbs up!
