TERRIBLE By GG Castillo Was excited to see recipes that help with inflammation problems --- I was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus about 9 years ago and have never found much literature in the cooking for inflammation rhelm. As you can imagine, I was pretty excited to see this one, until I started reading it.FIRST, as usual, NO PICTURES. SECOND, as usual, NO DESCRIPTION or intro as to WHY or WHAT in the recipe helps with inflammation. And finally, and most important when seemingly addressing a medical issue of any kind, NO REFERENCES to read about ingredients used! A last note: Did you know that the recipe for the cover picture cannot be found in the Book??

There is sugar in several of the recipes, which is a no-go for people with inflammatory diseases. It's the first thing you are told to avoid. And the cover photo, where's the recipe? No I will not recommend this book.

By Amazon Customer I suffer a lot from arthritis some days I can hardly move the pain is so bad but I take care of my mother. So I am always looking for anything that will help and these recipes are not just great but they are good for you too. The chicken chili is fantastic as is the marinated salmon and the vanilla sponge cake and banana ice cream.

I love to bake, and my girlfriend has an obsession with cupcakes. When I learned the author had competed on-and won- an episode of Food Network's "Cupcake Wars" I knew I had to read it. If I'm going to get new cupcake inspiration, it might as well be from the best. Overall, this was a solid collection of cupcake recipes.This book has a lot going for it. Included in this book (in addition to recipes), the author includes a list of tools and equipment that you should have on hand in order to make the cupcakes found within this collection. There's also a cheat sheet section, so to speak, of techniques used and how to practice and master them to get the most out of your cupcakes. The chapters are separated into chapters such as Daring Creations, Crowd Favorites, Savory, and Cocktail Inspired so that it's easy to reference what kind of cupcake you'd like to make. Any girl who includes a chapter completely dedicated to boozy cakes is a girl after my own heart.One of the best features about this book, in my humble opinion, is the fact that each and every cupcake recipe comes with a picture of how they should look. Pictures are of huge importance to me when I'm looking at a cookbook, so this made me really happy. On top of that, the pictures are very vibrant and professional; it's pretty much impossible to flip through this book without craving cake.One thing that did confuse me a bit was the "Daring Creations" section. I am going to assume that it is called that because there's use of spices and alcohol. But honestly, they seemed to be pretty normal flavor pairings, like mango and saffron or cranberry orange for a fall cupcake. "Daring" is a mighty big promise and while these recipes do sound delicious, they're pretty standard.I wouldn't necessarily recommend this book for beginner bakers. These cupcake recipes often have lots of ingredients. They definitely fall to a more complex style on the ease scale. A good majority of these books also have fillings, which adds a level of complexity. That said, if you do choose to use this guide, the instructions are fairly concise and descriptive, so that should help you through it.I'd honestly probably try all of the cupcakes in Dare to Bake! at least once, but as always I'll highlight a few that stuck out to me. The ones that I'd jump into first are Pumpkin Spice Latte Cupcakes (I know I know but PSL is love), Salmon Cupcakes, and Almond Amaretto Cupcakes.This is a good collection of cupcake recipes that I'd recommend for more advanced, or should I rephrase as more confident bakers. The recipes can be pretty complex, but there's plenty of pictures to help you through it.I was provided my copy in exchange for my honest review.

The author ( areal class act) signed a copy of her book for my daughter (a huge fan) and wrote a personalized message. As cooking books go, this is in the top 20% of tomes in my kitchen for a few reasons. First there is an extensive section on the tools of the trade as well as techniques and tips for ensuring the advertised outcome for each recipe. Second, the recipes are very clearly written and easy to follow. Finally, there is a picture of the end product in every case. My daughter and I baked our first cupcake today: French Toast and it turned out as tasty as any in Ady’s store. One minor gripe: my favorite (Pink Champagne) was not included.

About the Author About the Author: Lucy Leigh Hendry, cafe manager at Nature's Market in Melbourne, began her interest in healthy eating 24 years ago when her son was diagnosed with ADD. The journey led Lucy to publishing Brevard county's 1st natural health magazine entitled "Natures Guide". Lucy and her husband Richard hosted their own radio show call "Nature Guide Live". Lucy produced a local healthy living cable TV show. While working as marketing director for Wild Oats, Lucy realized that her true love was creating vegetable inspired dishes in the kitchen. From there she opened an art cafe called, Van Gogh's Creative Cafe. Allen Greenbaum This book--at times disjointed, rambling, self-referential, and irreverent--is decades ahead of its time. It's an interdisciplinarian's dream as Twain takes on economics, geography, politics, ancient and contemporary history, and folklore with equal ease. Mostly though, one appreciates his knack for exaggeration, the tall tale, and the outright lie. It's a triumph of tone, as he lets you in on his wild wit, his keen observation, and his penchant for bending the truth without losing his credibility as a guide.The book's structure is also modern: He recounts his days as a paddlewheel steam boat "cub," piloting the hundreds of miles of the Mississippi before the Civil War, then, in Part 2, returns to retrace his paddleboat route. Although a few of his many digressions don't work (they sometimes sound formulaic or too detailed) most of the narrative is extremely entertaining. Twain seems caught between admiration and disdain for the "modern" age-but he also rejects over-sentimentality over the past. He writes with beauty and cynicism, verve and humor. Very highly recommended!

The attention to detail and description place you within the story. This book is actually, I believe, an autobiography of Mark Twain's (Samuel Clemmons) life as a young man piloting steamboats up and down the Mississippi River.Whether the man, Mark Twain, interests you or not, Life on the Mississippi, is an eye opening look at America in an earlier era.In my (humble) opinion this is Mark Twain's best work.

Smith Let me guess: your total exposure to Mark Twain came in high school, when you were forced to read about the antics of Huck Finn or Tom Sawyer, right? Well, now that you've reached adulthood, you should make time to read _Life on the Mississippi_. It's mandatory reading if you live in a state that borders the great river, anywhere from Minnesota down to Louisiana. It's mandatory reading if you have come to that point in life when you can suddenly appreciate American history and post-Civil War stories written by someone who lived through that time. Writing in the first half of the 1870s, Twain retraces the steps of his youth: the watery highway he knew when he trained to be a riverboat pilot nearly 20 years earlier. He speaks of how life _was_ along the river, and what life _became_. It's almost a "you can't go home again" experience for him, while the reader gets the benefit of discovering both time periods. I have two favorite parts that I share with others. Chapter IX includes a wonderful dissertation about how learning the navigational intricacies of the river caused Twain to lose the ability to see its natural beauty. And Chapter XLV includes an assessment of how the people of the North and the South reacted differently to the war experience. If I were a social studies teacher, I'd use that last passage in a unit on the reconstruction period. So put this title on your vacation reading list, and don't fret: the chapters are short and are many -- 60! -- but you can stop at any time, and the words go by fast. _Life on the Mississippi_ should make you forget all about any Twain trauma and report-writing you may have suffered as a teenager. I don't know many people that would call multiple vegetables that need prep for a casserole an easy breakfast meal. I picked this book for breakfast recipes that are easy. While there are some recipes that are easy and what I would consider breakfast, soup is not one of them.I suggest a different title that properly reflects the recipes.
