I can honestly say that I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book By Shelly As a woman and a non-hunter, I can honestly say that I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It was tastefully written, filled with pertinent and factual information, providing an excellent and unbiased overview of every aspect about coyotes. I learned so much from reading this book. It was obvious to me that the author has a deep and profound respect for the coyote. Having experienced coyotes and wolves for the first time this summer on a trip out West to Yellowstone National Park, I was deeply moved by the beauty of these animals. I purchased this book to better understand and appreciate coyotes. I also enjoyed photographing them in their natural environment. As a nature/outdoor enthusiast, I have read many books and this is by far the best, most comprehensive overview about a wild animal that I have ever read. I highly recommend it. I also like that the author donates money from the sale of his book to feeding the homeless. If every author considered donating to such causes, it would go a long way in helping to make the world a better place.”

By David Loy Very comprehensive book. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in getting up close to the seldom seen coyote. Lots of case study information as well as wolf hybrid study findings. Trappers, hunters, and wildlife photographers....if you aren't seeing coyotes, perhaps this book is what you need to get closer. The book is very detailed with studies on behavior, senses, habitats, breeding seasons, and much more.Mike did a great job in making me realize just how successful the coyote really is and how devistating they can be to other species if poulations go unchecked. They are true survivors in every climate and in nearly every state in the U.S. except Hawaii!Great read.

No matter what your interest is in this fascinating animal this book covers all aspects of the coyote's life from A to Z. It differs from other books I've read on coyotes in that the author doesn't just tell story after story, he'll refer to a personal experience only to highlight a particular point regarding the coyote's behavior. This author gets into the biology behind the animal which gives you the "why", something I certainly appreciate. Very informative and useful for the field.

The past year has been one of viral panic—panic about viruses, that is. Through headlines, public health warnings, and at least one homemade hazmat suit, we were reminded of the powerful force of viruses. They are the smallest living things known to science, yet they can hold the entire planet in their sway.A Planet of Viruses is Carl Zimmer’s eye-opening look at the hidden world of viruses. Zimmer, the popular science writer and author of National Geographic’s award-winning blog The Loom, has updated this edition to include the stories of new outbreaks, such as Ebola, MERS, and chikungunya virus; new scientific discoveries, such as a hundred-million-year-old virus that infected the common ancestor of armadillos, elephants, and humans; and new findings that show why climate change may lead to even deadlier outbreaks. Zimmer’s lucid explanations and fascinating stories demonstrate how deeply humans and viruses are intertwined. Viruses helped give rise to the first life-forms, are responsible for many of our most devastating diseases, and will continue to control our fate for centuries. Thoroughly readable, and as reassuring as it is frightening, A Planet of Viruses is a fascinating tour of a formidable hidden world.

A Planet of Viruses: Second Edition, by Carl Zimmer

Review “Just about everything you’ve always wanted to know—and a lot you’ll probably wish you didn’t know—about the viruses that have caused humanity so much grief throughout history.” (Praise for the first edition Forbes)“In A Planet of Viruses, science writer Carl Zimmer accomplishes in a mere 100 pages what other authors struggle to do in 500: He reshapes our understanding of the hidden realities at the core of everyday existence. . . . Whether he’s exploring how viruses come to America or picking apart the surprisingly complicated common cold, Zimmer’s train of thought is concise and illuminating.” (Praise for the first edition Washington Post) “Absolutely top-drawer popular science writing. . . . Zimmer’s information-packed, superbly readable look at virological knowledge awakens readers to the fact that not only are viruses everywhere but we couldn’t live without them.” (Praise for the first edition Booklist, starred review)“A smart, beautiful, and somewhat demented book that’s likely to give you a case of the willies. In the best way possible.” (Praise for the first edition Boing Boing)

About the Author Carl Zimmer is a columnist for the New York Times, writes for National Geographic and other magazines, and is the author of thirteen books, including Parasite Rex, Soul Made Flesh, and Microcosm. He is also a lecturer at Yale University, where he teaches writing about science and the environment.

Carl Zimmer has a way of making microbiology concepts so relatable. I wish all of my friends would read this so they could understand why I get so giddy to talk about syncytin! The book is concise and makes science readable for laypeople. Each chapter is an article on a different subject, which makes it easy to still adore parts of the book even if a chapter or two don't resonate with you. Highly recommend! Also, I purchased the first edition AND the second edition. There do not appear to be huge differences between the two, though some of the research on ERVWE1 probably is missing from the first edition.

Wolf A Planet of Viruses by Carl Zimmer is a great little pocket reference on what viruses are, the history of viruses, the scientific struggles, and the good, the bad, and the ugly.So much information jammed into a little over 100 pages. Beautiful imagery as well. And, a nice reference section that ties this one up with a bow.If you want to know more about viruses without being saturated in scientific terminology and overwritten explanations, this is the book for you. It is an enjoyable quick read.

I was pleasantly surprised at the variety of foods that were presented in this book. Along with the usual camping meals like burgers and Smores, this book presented recipes for curry beef, chili chicken, breakfast burritos and chicken stir fry to name just a few! In addition, this book provided camping and survival tips so that if I ever decide to give camping a try, I will have all the necessary information to do it successfully and safely. If you're a camper or like me just like cooking outdoors, this book is a must read.

There are only 55 pages, and this book covers camping gear for the first 27 (half of the book). The recipes start at page 31. I was disappointed almost immediately. The second recipe was for "Pottery Pie placed in a Pouch". The photo is of a pastry pouch the looks really good. Not one ingredient listed included any pastry, dough or way to actually make the pouch shown in the photo. Many recipes skip details or require you to make other things spearately (i.e. rice) which might be difficult while camping. They also include a recipe for s'mores with no variation at all.In addition, the way the sentences are structured, it seems like this was written by someone who's first language is not English.Overall

This book helped me make delish and healthy food that my kids even asked me to make again when we got back home. It's a must read and can only imagine how camping would have been without it!

Also, Ward asserts that human beings are at a point in which they have enough knowledge to control how society functions in the future. His vision is a hands on control of evolution based on observations of how the evolution of nature works. This text is a crossroad where science and humanity meet.

The subject of corals and coral-reefs is one concerning which much popular misconception has always prevailed. The misleading comparison of coral-rock with the combs of bees and the nests of wasps is perhaps responsible for much of this misunderstanding; one writer has indeed described a coral-reef as being "built by fishes by means of their teeth."

Coral Reefs, by Charles Darwin

About the Author Charles Darwin was an English naturalist and author best-known for his revolutionary theories on the origin of species, human evolution, and natural selection. A life-long interest in the natural world led Darwin to neglect his medical studies and instead embark on a five-year scientific voyage on the HMS Beagle, where he established his reputation as a geologist and gathered much of the evidence that fuelled his later theories.A prolific writer, Darwin s most famous published works include The Voyage of the Beagle, On the Origin of Species, The Descent of Man, and Selection in Relation to Sex, and The Expression of Emotions in Man and Animals. Darwin died in 1882, and in recognition of his contributions to science, is buried in Westminster Abbey along with John Herschel and Isaac Newton.

The diagrams were scanned from the originals but were of a small size making some of the small text illegible. Perhaps the original pictures were larger. Some companies that reproduce old books use optical character recognition (OCR) that copies the text but not the drawings and then don't do anything to add the drawings. They may even not format the text properly. A company called General Books published by Macmillan And Company has done this. Other companies scan the pages so as to best capture the text, which is not always best for the pictures which may have shading, and just reproduce what they have scanned including any underlining of text by the books owners and any other marks most of which could have been removed. One such book, The Variation of Animals and Plants Under Domestication Part One by Charles Darwin published by Kessinger Publishing's Rare Reprints, mentions stripes on a drawing of a horse, which is rather dark all over, where no such stripes are visible but when I looked the book up on the net the drawing is far lighter with clear stripes. One company who's photos seem acceptable, although pale, is Bibliolife at least in Volume II of Alfred Russel Wallace's My Life: A Record of Events and Opinions and who's drawings in Charles Darwin's The Formation of Vegetable Mould, Through the Action of Worms, With Observations on their Habits are also OK, although I have not seen the originals to make a comparison. New York University Press's Charles Darwin book Movements and Habits of Climbing Plants also has drawings that are OK, although again I have not seen the originals. People looking for reprints of old books should try to find out the quality of any drawings and even if drawings in original printings are included before buying.

It's a slightly cleaned-up version of the free public domain book available elsewhere, but neither of them has any graphics of any kind. Good ebook quality, but Darwin refers to his figures quite a bit, and it's pretty hard to know what he's talking about without them.I mistakenly thought the other reviewer was also reviewing the Kindle version, but note that he's reviewing the HARDCOVER version.

Ancient aliens, royal bloodlines, suppressed technology, one-world government; these are just a few of the many theories that have been proposed to explain the mysteries behind Sumerian archaeological excavations. In her bestselling report, The Sumerian Controversy, Heather Lynn lifted the veil to expose the elite power structure behind the latest discovery near the ancient city of Ur. In this full-length follow-up book, she gives updates on the excavations, and pushes the boundaries of the accepted narrative to expose a hidden history, and the measures some will take to keep it secret. Land of the Watchers is a stylized first-person narrative of one archaeologist's look into archaeological excavations funded by oligarchs and aristocracy, through interviews and whistleblower testimony. She learns that the motivation behind research into Sumerian artifacts and temple sites is to establish a link between the ancient kings of Mesopotamia and the ruling class of today. This link, if found, would give the mega wealthy what has been known in history as the Divine Right of Kings; the right to rule over the entire world's population. There is only one caveat; this doctrine can only be enforced if a relic, known as the Tablet of Destinies, is found and its fragments pieced together. Armed with this knowledge, Heather goes in search of what is being planned for mankind at the hands of the super-elite, following the hidden history of the bloodlines of the Sumerian King list from biblical days, through Classical Antiquity, and into today's high tech geopolitical landscape. Is there an ancient genealogical link between the ruling class, wealthy global elites, and the Sumerian kings? Is this genetic link of earthly origin? What does this mean for mankind, and who are the Watchers?

By Brendan Carberry It pains me to write a negative review of books in this genre because of the dearth of scholarly acceptance of extra-terrestrial intervention in early civilizations. But, this book earns its' negative review due it's lack of ever truly being bold enough to just come out and state conclusively "yes! aliens have been entirely responsible for creating the human species and here is the conclusive and irrefutable evidence." The entire theme of Land of The Watchers is Heather Lynn being contacted by people who are always spoonfeeding her with groundbreaking evidence of conspiracy and doing a "man, I've been places and seen things - if you only knew...but, wait, that's all I can tell you!"It really is just the same old same old being trotted out by a different author; Anunnaki this, Enki, Enlil, Anu, that. And the "de rigueur" grand conspiracy that the royal families of Earth are descendants of the original extra-terrestrials sent here to oversee the Adamu used to mine gold or rare petroleum sources that imparted physical immortality if consumed. Not, that I don't believe that there are indeed conspiracies out there beyond our wildest imagination. But, unless you dig and search to the ends of the Earth and beyond, the information won't come easy.Personally, I believe that there has been either extra-terrestrial or inter-dimensional advanced being contact throughout the entirety of human existence, much of which has been carved into stone or passed down through verbal record. Stone like diorite which would require either diamond or some sort of laser to cut so precisely and with the absence of tool marks and the similarity of accounts by civilizations that couldn't have had any chronological or geographical contact. But this book never gets into this particular debate in text or photographs, it inconclusively intimates that there are powerful and unseen entities in the "out there, biding their time to strike."If you knew absolutely nothing whatsoever about ancient astronaut theory and conspiracy theory - and have an open mind, and this is the first book you've ever read on the subjects it might pique your interest. However, if you are familiar with the names and the theories of Zecharia Sitchin or someone like R.A. Schwaller de Lubicz you are definitely going to want more information. Those guys wrote COPIOUS amounts of information down in their book series, and have firsthand photographs and diagrams detailing why they believe what they do.After this I'm planning to learn ancient Vinca script, and Sumerian, and Akkadian, and Ancient Runic and just do my own damned research and form my opinions. The telephone game of Cuneiform tablet translation is really getting old.

Dr. Lynn gives an overview of what is known about the dig near Ur, it's artifacts, and where they are going. She also examines why they are disappearing! She seeks the answers to the question, " who's behind all of this"? What you won't expect, is the parallel story here of her personal sacrifice to obtain this information. I mean, if you were a investigative archaeologist / historian, how much personal risk would you be willing to take? I care not about double spacing or quality of paper it's printed on, but I do care about truth in archaeology as well as the other sciences. We should all collectively thank Dr.Lynn for her courage and personal sacrifices in obtaining this truth. I highly recommend this book. And to Heather Lynn I say, " GREAT JOB, GREAT BOOK, and THANK YOU!!

I had read her other ones and thought this would have some interesting follow up on Ur excavations. Didn't happen. This was 225 pages of Doubled Spacing the whole way! Felt like I was reading a "child's book". Not much worth reading about.
