Forster Chronology will find extremely few readers although the select few will find it a very practical source. Stape has gathered the existing knowledge of Forster's life in a a practical and rather concise form. It is supplemented by a short "Who's Who" (in EMF's life) and a list of locations and addresses where EMF lived in his very long life.Before you choose to buy it - it is a tool, a chronological source, not a biography. If you need a biography of Forster there is a lot to choose from - Furbank, Beauman, King, and, most recently, Moffat - but this particular book will be a major disappointment for you. Actually, the only people for whom this will be truly handy are those who decided to write yet another biography of EMF.If I haven't discouraged you yet (or encouraged should you be one of the few mentioned above) better try to get a copy from a library and take a closer look before ordering a copy for yourself.

James Morier's journeys through the Middle East as a representative of the British government lent him an extensive and intimate knowledge of Iranian culture, one that he used to great effect in his writing. The translation into Persian of Hajji Baba is, in fact, considered one of the masterpieces of the 19th-century literature of the language, with many native speakers unaware that it was originally penned by a visiting Englishman.

Long out of print, this wild novel is sure to delight new generations of armchair adventurers.

About the Author English author, diplomat, and adventurer JAMES JUSTINIAN MORIER (1780-1849) served as the British ambassador to the court of Persia from 1810 to 1816. He is also remembered for his memoir A Journey through Persia, Armenia and Asia Minor to Constantinople in 1808.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. A still fresh picaresque Persian adventure By Lois Chaney Having very recently returned from a three-week trip in Iran, I was impelled to read J. J. Morier's Adventures of Hajji Baba of Ispahan in a Heritage Club edition that had sat, ignored, on my bookshelf for decades.Purportedly retold by the chaplain to the Swedish Embassy in Constantinople (Istanbul), this is a lively and comic first-person account by Hajji Baba, a barber's son who travels throughout Persia--and Turkey--during the early 19th century with references at one point to Napoleon. All the places Hajji Baba visits are real with references to still existing monuments such as the Royal Mosque in Imam Square, Esfahan. The fascinating social conventions and the tribal differences between the many peoples who still make up much of contemporary Iran, really haven't changed that much over the past 200 years.The characters Hajji Baba meets all have their own riveting inset stories. But Hajii Baba's accounts of his up-and-down fortunes are probably the best. His many, and always temporary, occupations include that of a dervish, a smoke seller, an executioner's assistant, a novice mullah, and a small-time merchant of tobacco pipes. He has two affairs of the heart, both ending in disaster. Throughout, his personal morality is at best flexible so he usually merits the downs, such as having his feet beaten to jelly, as well as the ups. The novel ends with the Shah appointing him as a deputy accompanying the vizier to England.At the end, Peregrine Persic, the fictional author, promised a second volume covering this subsequent part of Hajji Baba's life, but to my knowledge it was never published.This lively novel should be of major interest to anyone who has visited Iran where most of the frenetic animal traffic of camels, horses and mulesLonely Planet Iran (Country Guide) has been replaced with a terrifying mix of cars, trucks and motorcycles. For those who have not, Hajji Baba provides a great reason for such a trip.

A fine tale to keep on the shelf By Antonio Cacciolla A wonderful rollicking adventure that takes you back to a time of innocence in terms of pre air travel and international blandnes, homoginization and cell phones. Where an adventure meant not knowing what was around the next corner instead of googling google earth to see what's there just in case. The butcher son is clear and clean and I enjoyed most was the mid volume tale of the 'Story of the Baked Head'. I have the Random House edition of 1937 with it wonderful colour illustrations (somewhat art deco to my eye) and in text line drawings. A wonderful tale to read to youngish readers if you are not of the politically correct lineage. Enjoy and expand.

It was so entralling, I could not put it down until I finished it.As someone who has himself spent years in the Middle East, and even married into the culture, I find Morier's accounting of Haji Baba completely credible. In fact, except for the time, and places, many of Haji Baba's adventures closely parallel my own.This book is worth having in one's library as a classic.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Oversimplified and no carb counts in recipes By KashaB I gave this book 3 stars because it had some good points in it. I liked that it was straight to the point without going too deep into the science of low carb. I also liked some of the recepies. What was lacking was that there was no real guidance about what calorie/carb level one shoud strive for. Also, this being a book that promotes low carb high fat you would think the recipes would at the very least have carb counts. But unfortunately it doesn't. Finally, the Conclusion read as follows: "Throw something together here for the conclusion. Summarize a bit." Even for a cheap Kindle book I would expect better than this.

The book explains what keto diet is, which is very beneficial to beginners. They the book proceeded in relating keto diet to weight loss. A chapter also focuses on the exercise that can be done when in the keto lifestyle and the keto diet recipes? They. are. so. delicious! I have tried a couple and I am liking what I tasted. Good job here!

I liked the recipes and the vast amount of information that the author included in the book. Its really helped my friends who told me about it and so i made a decision to try myself. Recommended!

Excerpt from the beginning: "Uncle Charlie Wheeler stamped on the steps before Nance McGregor's bake-shop on the Main Street of the town of Coal Creek Pennsylvania and then went quickly inside. Something pleased him and as he stood before the counter in the shop he laughed and whistled softly. With a wink at the Reverend Minot Weeks who stood by the door leading to the street, he tapped with his knuckles on the showcase. "It has," he said, waving attention to the boy, who was making a mess of the effort to arrange Uncle Charlie's loaf into a neat package, "a pretty name. They call it Norman—Norman McGregor." Uncle Charlie laughed heartily and again stamped upon the floor. Putting his finger to his forehead to suggest deep thought, he turned to the minister. "I am going to change all that," he said. "Norman indeed! I shall give him a name that will stick! Norman! Too soft, too soft and delicate for Coal Creek, eh? It shall be rechristened. You and I will be Adam and Eve in the garden naming things. We will call it Beaut—Our Beautiful One—Beaut McGregor." The Reverend Minot Weeks also laughed. He thrust four ringers of each hand into the pockets of his trousers, letting the extended thumbs lie along the swelling waist line. From the front the thumbs looked like two tiny boats on the horizon of a troubled sea. They bobbed and jumped about on the rolling shaking paunch, appearing and disappearing as laughter shook him. The Reverend Minot Weeks went out at the door ahead of Uncle Charlie, still laughing. One fancied that he would go along the street from store to store telling the tale of the christening and laughing again. The tall boy could imagine the details of the story. It was an ill day for births in Coal Creek, even for the birth of one of Uncle Charlie's inspirations. Snow lay piled along the sidewalks and in the gutters of Main Street—black snow, sordid with the gathered grime of human endeavour that went on day and night in the bowels of the hills. Through the soiled snow walked miners, stumbling along silently and with blackened faces. In their bare hands they carried dinner pails."

About the Author Sherwood Anderson was an American novelist, short-story writer, memoirist, essayist, and poet. A successful copywriter and business owner, Anderson s experience of a nervous breakdown precipitated his abandonment of his business and family in order to pursue a full-time writing career.

Anderson went on to produce more than twenty published works in his lifetime, including the enduring short-story collection, Winesburg, Ohio, and his semi-autobiographical style served as an influence for some of the brightest writers of the succeeding generation, including Ernest Hemingway, John Steinbeck, William Faulkner, and Thomas Wolfe. Anderson died in 1941.

Daugherty Anderson paints a stark view the working man throughout history, even though the story is set in the late 1800's. A must read for philosophy and sociology students. A five star because of his presentation and the feelings evoked.
